 Our Aims

The current Garden of Remembrance is in desperate need of a total makeover. It's a waterlogged, depressing place that's hardly used because it is just so miserable & soul-less. We want to change it into a user friendly garden with lots of colour & somewhere inspiring to sit to either remember a loved one or maybe to think about adding another furry pal to the family. Everybody smiles when they see a rainbow, and that’s what we hope for when they see our new Rainbow Garden.

About Us

    Ellie was my one in a lifetime furry friend, who I sadly lost recently. I wanted to do something in her memory &  as we were long term supporters of D&G Canine Rescue kennels it seemed appropriate to combine the two, hence the idea of a Rainbow Garden was born.   

Although this fundraising is with the kennels' approval, it is an independent appeal, hence being called Ellie's Fund, rather than it going under the D&GCR banner..

We’re raising funds by a variety of ways & intend to start the work Spring 2014 ( funds permitting ), so for an unusual gift for the person who has everything, you can sponsor a tree in their name or maybe dedicate a tree to a loved one - 4 legged or 2, we don't mind!

It's D&GCR's 10th anniversary in 2013 so it would be lovely to commemorate this as well but it all depends on how far I can make the funds stretch! 

Any spare shrubs, perennial plants, top soil would be very gratefully received :-)

ATTENTION GARDENERS! IF YOU'RE MAKING A START ON YOUR BORDERS & FIND SOME OF YOUR PLANTS HAVE OUTGROWN THEIR SPACE OR YOU WOULD LIKE TO REHOME ANY SURPLUS PLANTS, THEN PLEASE CONTACT US! WE'LL PROBABLY BE ABLE TO USE THEM TO FILL IN GAPS IN OUR GARDEN, EVEN IF IT'S JUST UNTIL WE CAN GET MORE ESTABLISHED PLANTS. UPDATE - FEB 2014. THERE HAS BEEN A DELAY IN STARTING THE GARDEN, PARTLY DUE TO THIS HORRENDOUS WEATHER & PARTLY DUE TO THE NEW PUPPY BLOCK / ISOLATION UNIT WHICH WAS BUILT ON LAND ADJACENT TO THE GARDEN. IT SEEMED SENSIBLE TO WAIT TILL THE HEAVY MACHINERY HAD FINISHED TRUNDLING ABOUT AROUND THE GARDEN AREA BEFOE MAKING A START - NO POINT IN DOING ALL THAT WORK THEN GETTING IT ALL CHURNED UP BY BULLDOZERS ETC.

THE FIELD DRAINS ARE NOW IN & GETTING A THOROUGH TESTING AT THE MINUTE! THE PLANS HAVE HAD TO BE MODIFIED YET AGAIN BECAUSE THE BORDERS BEING CHANGED BUT WE ARE STILL HOPING TO START WORK AS SOON AS THE WEATHER ALLOWS (& I'VE SORTED OUT YET ANOTHER PLANTING PLAN!)
